Am I Thin Enough Yet?
In my Race, Class, and Gender course, we learn all about things happening in America. One of the articles we discussed was Sharlene Hesse-Biber's "Am I Thin Enough Yet?" In the article, Hesse-Biber talks about the struggles women face to meet their self image of being thin. After reading this article, I became annoyed by the fact that women starve themselves and let other people criticize them for what they eat. I feel that women do not have to be thin to be beautiful and that it is not fair that many people believe you do. You should not have to starve yourself in order to impress others. I feel that women are very insecure and that there are many things that influence this. Magazines promote thin, beautiful models which can lead a women to want to look that way. I feel the women should stop trying to impress or look like others and work on impressing oneself!
